TECHNOLOGY

A heat-driven approach to energy.

The MDE is HHES’s patented external-combustion engine and prime-mover architecture. Heat is supplied externally to produce mechanical power for generation.

MAXIMUM DELIVERY

A deliberate thermodynamic approach.

The Maximum Delivery thermodynamic condition centers on adiabatic compression and expansion and isochoric heating and cooling, with a minimized inactive/dead-volume objective. Matched isolator/cap geometry and the common-space architecture are intended to support that thermodynamic arrangement.

At the Maximum Delivery condition, adiabatic compression preheats the working fluid before isochoric heating, and adiabatic expansion precools it before isochoric cooling, eliminating the need for regenerative preheating and precooling.

THERMAL RELATIONSHIP

Common space + midpoint thermal communication.

The power-piston cylinder thermally communicates with the chamber at or near the midpoint / maximum-diameter region. This central relationship allows the working fluid to communicate thermally with the power piston without first having to travel through the opposite thermal end.

EXTERNAL HEAT

One prime mover. More than one heat source.

Because heat is supplied externally, the same fundamental engine architecture can potentially be integrated with concentrated solar thermal heat, combusted-fuel heat, or other suitable external heat sources in future applications.

A fuel-fired heat source can supply the hot side directly; solar heat is not a fundamental requirement.

SYSTEM INTEGRATION

Electricity, useful heat, and storage.

The engine is designed to produce mechanical power to drive a generator. Combined Heat and Power (CHP) systems provide both electricity and useful recovered heat. Cooling-system heat may be recovered for domestic hot water or space heating where practical.

Third-party batteries and inverters could support variable demand and short-duration surge loads alongside steady generation.

CURRENT ENGINEERING

One architecture across multiple scales.

MDE designs undergo analytical and computational evaluation before physical prototype fabrication, followed by instrumented hardware testing.

Engineering development includes thermodynamic analysis, heat-transfer and flow modeling, and CFD/OpenFOAM simulation.

Prototype configuration and sequencing will be selected based on engineering results, fabrication practicality, and development priorities.

All platforms remain in engineering and pre-commercial development.
